MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING. A self handicap competition was held in conjunction with the usual weekly shoot of the Sandon Miniature Rifle club this week. The winners of the various buttons were: A grade J. C. Fagan 137; B grade, J. Palmer 138, C grade, C. Masters 133. The winner of the trophy presented by Mr. C. E. Bailey was J. W. Meyer, who shot off with B. Masters. SCHOOL BALL. The annual ball of the Sanson School, which is to be held on Friday night, is being keenly awaited for by the children. All arrangements have been completed and the function promises to be a most enjoyable one for all who attend. PERSONAL. The postmaster, Mr. W. J. Rowan, left this week on his vacation for North Auckland, where he intends to visit his home. Mr. J. McKenzie, of the Post Office relieving staff, is at present stationed in Sandon, where he is relieving Mr. W. J. Rowan during the absence of the postmaster.

Mr. W. S. K. Drew, who was on the staff of the Manawatu County Council, has been promoted to the position of county clerk to the Cheviot County Council. Mr. Drew is a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Drew, the former being the well known county clerk of the Manawatu County Council.
