STATE PURCHASE
MOTOR CONNECTION AUCKLAND TO HAMILTON WELLINGTON, Oct. 19. The Government is to take over Markey’s Aard Motor Service, running between Auckland and Hamilton, at the beginning of next week. No official information was available on the matter in Wellington this evening, but the statement that the Government is to take over control of the service is made on the best authority. It is understood that negotiations for the purchase of the service have been proceeding for some time and that the position was reached recently where agreement was arrived at between the parties concerning valuation and good-will. It is also gathered that the purchase has been fully approved by the Government. It is stated that the service will be conducted under State control as from Monday next, the service runs next Sunday being the last to be operated by Markey’s Motors. An earlier date of transfer was desired by the Government, but it acceded to the operators’ request that they be permitted to continue the service over the holiday exodus, which is anticipated to be fairly large between Friday and Sunday. It is understood that the drivers and other employees under the existing organisation will continue in the same employment under Government control.
