GERM-PROOF FABRIC
MANCHESTER INVENTION. A novel idea in “resistance” fabrics is a germ-proof shirting material produced by a Manchester firm of textile manufacturers and recently put on the market for the first time. The material is impregnated by a special process which drives off germs and will prevent the carrying of such infectious maladies as influenza from anyone handling the material in the course of its progress through the factory or the shop. A representative of the firm making the new material stated that most people would be surprised at the number of persons handling a cotton textile article such as a shirt before it got to the actual wearer and as very ...few people took the trouble to wash new goods of this kind there was certainly a need for something to prevent the spreading of germs. The “dope” with which the material was treated was harmless and gave off a faint agreeable odour, which disappeared altogether after washing.
