TEMPERANCE WORK WANGANUI EAST BRANCH The usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui East Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held in St. Alban’s Hall, when Mrs Day occupied the chair. The devotional service was conducted by Mrs Scott. After the members had reaffirmed the pledge and the minutes of the previous meeting had been read and confirmed correspondence was read and received and apologies received from Mesclamcs Shute, Coneybeer, Dabinett and Jones.

It was decided to postpone the November meeting till November 18 on account of Show Day. Arrangements were concluded for the cradle roll party on Saturday. November 13. when the mothers and children will be entertained by the union members. Mrs Walker will have charge ot the cake and sweet stall and Mrs Carter o! the produce stall. Mrs Walker, district W.R. agent, was present and made an appeal tor the extension of the work in all its branches. As Maori Day was being celebrated. Sister Hobbs, of Ratana, spoke of her work among the Maori people, and appealed for a better understanding from their pakeha neighbours. A donation of f2 was made to the district fund. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to Mrs Walker and to Sister Hobbs for their talks. Afternoon tea was served and the meeting closed with the Benediction.
