PRAYER REFUSED
SOUTHLAND PETITION HOSPITAL AMALGAMATION [ Per Press Association. 1 WELLINGTON, Oct. 20. The report of the Public Health Committee on a petition from over 3000 persons praying that the amalgamation of the Southland and Wallace Hospital Boards be not proceeded with was tabled in the House of Representatives to-day. The committee had no recommendation to make. An amendment moved by the Hon. Adam Hamilton that there should be a referendum on the subject was defeated by 49 votes to 17.
