WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Thursday, October 21, 3 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone, with its centre east of the South Island, still dominates the situation. A shallow deprerjiion located over the north-central Tasman appears to be filling up, but a fresh depression is moving on to south-eastern Australia. Forecast.—Winds: North-easterly to northerly predominating, light to moderate generally but later freshening in the southern portion of the South Island and Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters): Slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate northerly winds and moderate seas, but later winds and seas rising in the southern portion. Weather: Fair to cloudy with mild, hazy conditions generally, but some scattered rains developing shortly in the south-west and far southern portions of the South Island and the far north.
The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 7 hours 40 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Temperatures: Maximum, 66deg. Fahr.; minimum, 41deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 6.20 p.m. Time of sunset to-morrow, 4.50 a.m.
