ALSATIAN DOG BILL
MEASURE BEFORE UPPER HOUSE READ A SECOND TIME [ Psr Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Oct. 20. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. Select committees were appointed. Moving the second reading of the Alsatian Dog Bill, the Hon. Carrington said that a somewhat similar measure had been passed by the Council on three successive occasions, but had been rejected by the House. The measure before the Council was similar to that of the last session except that the pronosed registration
fee had been reduced from £5 to £2 He contended Alsatian dogs were | menace to the safety of people an( should be controlled. The Hon. Robbins supported the Bill and said that the Alsatian dog was a vicious animal and of no utility whatever. The people of the community should not be menaced for the sake of a hobby of a few who kept such dogs. The Hon. Mclntyre opposed the Bill and said that he would move, in the committee stages, to delete everything except the proposal to provide for a registration fee of £2. If the dogs were a menace the Government would deal with them. The Bill was read a second time and the Council adjourned until November 2.
