AUCKLAND TAXI-CABS

LICENSING AND CONTROL [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Oct. 19. Following a series of conferences between representatives of the Auckland City Council and the Auckland Transport Board concerning the question of the future licensing and control of taxi-cabs in the Auckland area, an arrangement was reached to-day by which the Transport Board will become the metropolitan licensing authority and the City Council will be fully responsible for enforcement under the proposed amending legislation to bring this class of transport under the provisions of the Transport Licensing Act. 1931. The Commissioner of Transport, Mr. G. Laurenson, attended these conferences, and it was stated that on his return to Wellington he would recommend the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, to incorporate the terms of arrangement in a Bill which he will be submitting to Parliament this session. “The outcome of the deliberations has been most satisfactory,” lid the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis. “With all such matters compromise must be the guiding factor, and the arrangement which has been come to, based as it is on this principle, should be in every way workable.”
