Jubilee Week Proposed An honorarium of 15 guineas was rotcd to Mr. Spurdie for his duties as secretary and custodian, and in moving the motion, Mr. C. Tate paid a tribute to Mr. Spurdie’s work in that position for the past 49 years. The coming season was the club’s fiftieth, and all members, both young and old, were exhorted to rally round and make the season a record one which •would be worth remembering and '.talking about in years to come. Members owed it not only to the club but also to the secretary, for without his services the club would have been defunct years ago. A special rally should be made to ensure a record season.

The remarks were heartily applauded, and Mr. Byron said he would like to see a “Rowing Week” or some similar function arranged to celebrate the club’s jubilee, as well as in honour of Mr. Spurdie’s services extending over 50 years. Such a week would also create a great interest in rowing. Mr. C. Tate endorsed these remarks adding that all old members of the club who had left the town should be invited to attend the gala, renew acquaintances and renew old memories. Old-timers’ races, club events, a, ball, and perhaps a smoke concert, could be held, and should make a very successful week. Many old-timers would attend, and plenty of activities could be organised to fill in the week. : The chairman suggested that the week could commence or conclude With the regatta if the Regatta Club would co-operate. , The suggestions were considered good unes, and the meeting enthusiastically decided to recommend the whole matter to the committee’s conlid eration. A plan will be formulated and placed before a special meeting of the club. At a subsequent meeting of the committee, Mr. Les. Byron was reflected chairman, and eight new members were proposed and accepted.
