THE WANGANUI SALE FAT EWES EASIER At their weekly Wanganui stock sale yesterday, Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd., offered an average yarding in all sections. Fat ewes were easier by about 2s a head for wolly and Is a head for shorn. Fat cattle recovered the drop of the previous week. Store hoggets sold well but there was little enquiry for store cattle, which comprised mostly yearling steers and heifers. Both store and fat pigs sold readily firm at last week's high values and a small entry of vealers sold in the favour of sellers. For the ninth successive week beet values were quoted firm to 41s per 1001 b. at Westfield to-day. Ox quality was sound, but the bulk of the cow entry included plain and unfinished grades, for which prices were slightly easier. Extra choice ox sold at 41 per 1001 b., choice and prime, 37s to 40s; unfinished, 31s to 365; prime cow and heifer beef, 37s to 40s; unfinished, 26s to 365. Extra heavy steers ranged from £l6 to £l7 17s 6d; heavy, £l5 10s to £l7; medium, £l3 10s to £l5 17s 6d; light, £ll 12s 6d to £l3 15s; unfinished, £8 12s 6d to £ll 10s; extra heavy cows and heifers, £lO 5s to £l3 10s; heavy, £8 17s 6d to £ll 15s; medium, £7 5s to £9 15s; light, £5 to £8 10s; unfinished, £2 10s to £4 10s.

In consequence of an extra large yarding of calves, there was a slackness in demand and prices in practically all classes eased by about 5s a head. Runners, £3 5s to £9 15s; heavy vealers, £5 to £6 3s; medium, £4 os to £4 19s; light, £3 5s to £4 4s; smaller, £2 4s to £3 4s; unfinished, 15s to 40s; rough, 15s to 255; bobby, 6s to 15s. A heavy supply of pigs included good quaiity and a steady sale resulted in firm rates being obtained for all sorts. Values were well maintained in all sections except store Sheep, where there was an easing for old ewes and their lambs and £ °Sto?e S Sheep.-A line of close on 900 shorn Romney hoggets from the Chatham Islands were a feature of the store market and these sold from 23s to 26s for all except a pen of 80 odd Good ewes and lambs made an even 20s but old sorts ranged about 12s to 14s. Spring Lambs.—Moderate quality was forward and sold up to about 10-ld per lb. Fat Sheep.—A smaller entry of 4000 head. All shorn sheep sold well. Wethers to 36s 4(1, ewes to 33s lOcl. Most wethers forward were shorn and better sorts sold from 28s to 335; woolly ewes from 35s to 445; medium woolly 31s to 345. Fat Cattle.—4lo were penned. There was a good sale, particularly for light bodies, heavy being a shade easier. Much of the best beef ranged round about 40s and in cases to 435. Good 36s 6d to 395. Top price for steers was £2O 2s 6d, cows £l6 2s. Good prime steers made from £l5 to £l7, prime light to medium weights £l3 to £l4 15s, good cow's £lO to £ll 10s, good heifers £lO 15s to £l2 ss, rough cows down to £5 ss. Vealers.—A good sale for prime vealers, big plain runners being easier.

Store Cattle.—A small entry met with a keen sale, two-year steers making to £5 Is and fattening cows from £5 10s to £6. Fat Pigs.—An average entry, prices being well maintained. Porkers 38s 6d to £3 7s 6d; average price per lb 7id to Bd. Baconers £3 6s 6d to £5 12s 6d; average price per lb 7id to Bd.

Store Pigs.—Young pigs were in brisk demand. Weaners 16s to 235, slips 24s to 265, stores 28s to 395, sows in pig £3 10s to £5 10s.
