MAJESTIC THEATRE

“THE GOOD EARTH." ‘The Good Earth," is continuing its season at the Majestic Theatre. The film is one which should be seen, not only because of the excellent photog- , raphy and the dramatic qualities of the famine and locust scenes, but because of the lesson told in the magnificent acting o£ Luise Rainer, Paul Muni, as Wang, the farmer, portrays excellently the varying reactions of man to extreme poverty and wealth—the human fallibility of man as contrasted with the rocklike constancy of his humble wife. Walter Connolly, Tilly Losh, Charles Grapewin, and Jessie Ralph also play prominent parts, and there are many hundreds of Chinese in the cast. ‘TOO Men and a Girl.” Deanna Durbin has yielded to the inevitable in the life of every popular singer. The 14-year-old soprano sings a song while sitting on a piano in her new Universal picture, “100 Men and a Girl,” commencing on Saturday at the Majestic Theatre. During her brief but spectacular movie career the little star has sung on a sailboat, in bed, and in a police station, but this is the first time she has ever sung a number while using a piano for a chair. The song which Deanna sings is “It’s Raining Sunbeams.” The picture was produced by Joseph Pasternak and directed by Henry Koster, the men who made “Three Smart Girls" which brought Deanna overnight fame. Mischa Auer and Alice Brady, prominent in “Three Smart Girls,” are with Miss Durbin again in the present film. Sharing the starlight with Deanna is Leopold Stokowski, famous conductor of the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra in his first cinema speaking role. Adolphe Menjou and Eugene Pallette are featured players.
