AUSTRALIA-ENGLAND i Jean Batten Leaves Darwin GOOD PROGRESS MADE (By Telegraph—Press Association— Received Oct. 19, 9.5 p.m. DARWIN, Oct. 19. Miss Jean Batten took off at 6 a.m. local time. The Administrator, Mr. Abbott, and his family, with whom she stayed while at Darwin, and a number ol well-wishers, farewelled her. Asked whether she was glad to be starting. Miss Batten replied: “Yes, but not as glad as I will be when I turn fol home.” ARRIVAL AT BATAVIA. Received Oct. 19, 11.50 p.m. N BATAVIA, Oct. 19. 1 Miss Batten arrived at 4.45 p.m., local time, BROADBENT DELAYED FOG AT HANWORTH LONDON, Oct. 18. Fog prevented Mr H. F. Broadbent departing from Hanworth Aerodrome in an attempt to beat Miss Batten’s record to Australia. He says he hopes to leave this week, possibly on Tues* day or Wednesday, depending on the weather. He is using the machine with which he created his record from Australia to England. TO SEEK CAPE RECORD FLYING-OFFICER CLOUSTON Received Oct. 19, 5.5 p.m, 7 LONDON, Oct. 18. The New Zealander Flying-Office! Clouston, using the same machine ai he flew in the international air rac< in August, is planning an attempt thi< week on Miss Amy Johnson’s London to the Cape record.
