Meteorological Office, Wellington, Monday, October 18, 3 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone is crossing the Dominion today while an extensive cyclonic depression is centred far to the northeast. At the same time pressures are low and conditions disturbed over south-eastern Australia and the western Tasman. Forecast.—Winds: South-easterly about and north of Cook Strait, moderate"mainly in force but strong in some exposed positions; elsewhere light to moderate and variable at first but north-easterlies soon prevailing and later freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough about Cook Strait and on the east coast of the North Island, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate easterly winds backing to northerlies and freshening; seas moderate but later rising. Weather: For the most part fair to fine. Some scattered rains probable, however, in the Far North and in eastern districts and later some showers probable also in the Far South and cloud gradually increasing generally. Temperatures mild.
