BANDS CONTEST
SOUTH CANTERBURY RESULTS * Per Press Association. ] ASHBURTON, Oct. 18. The Canterbury provincial bands contest was held on Saturday. The Ashburton Silver Band was the only entrant in the B grade. Timaru Municipal, junior, won both the quickstep (247* points) and own choice (129 points). Waimatu Silver, 2371 points and 119 points, was the only other competitor. There were six competitors in the pipe bands quickstep. Results w'ere: Ashburton Highland Band, handicap 25, 282; Timaru Highland, scr., 276; MacKenzie, handicap 31, 264 i. Selection, City of Christchurch Highland, scr., 89; MacKenzie Highland, handicap 10, 83; North Canterbury Caledonian, handicap 13, 80.
