Whitebait More Plentiful Following a period during which few whitebait have been caught in the Wanganui district the delicacy were reported to be more plentiful during the week-end on account of warmer weather. Several residents “tried their luck” in the Wangaehu River on Saturday and in a few minutes caught slightly over half a gallon. Catches have been reported from nearly all the main streams along the Wanganui coast. Whitebait earlier in the season were bringing 6s a pint in local shops, but recently the price fell to 4s. In some quarters it is considered that the warm weather has brought about an increase in the fish.
