Meteorological Office, Wellington, Sunday, October 17, 8 p.m. General Situation.—The recent northern cyclone has moved away eastwards and an anti-cyclone of moderate intensity has been covering the Dominion to-day. Pressure is, however, hw over the western Tasman Sea, a rather deep cyclonic depression being centred off the New South Wales coast. Forecast.—Winds: Moderate to strong easterly north of Kawhia and East Cape, elsewhere light to moderate and variable at first but later tending north-easterly or northerly generally and gradually . freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough to rough north of Eask Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: ModenCe to strong easterly to northerly winds; seas rough in the northern portion and moderate but later rising in the southern portion. Weather: Fair to fine generally at first b’t a few scattered showers probable in the far North and South. Cloud gradually increasing, however, and unsettled conditions and fairly general rain setting in after from 24 to 36 hours. Temperatures mild. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 12 hours 20 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Temperatures: Maximum, Gsdeg. Fahr.; minimum, 37 deg. Fahr.
