BOWLING CLUB OPENING DATE FIXED The third meeting of the Raetihi Bowling Club was held at Mr. Webb’s oilice on Tuesday, October 6, when the 1 president (Mr. C. M. Whyte), Messrs. Drury, Cury, Head, Paulgcr, Hogg, Soar and Fagg were present. It was decided that the official opening day for the club be on Wednesday, October 20, at 2 p.m., and invitations to be present are being forwarded to the patron (the Hon. Frank Langstone), the Mayor (Dr. W. J. Feltham) and Mr. Clinkard, the clubs delegate. Invitations are also being extended to the lady friends of the members and to the Ohakune, Taihape and Taumarunui Clubs. Invitations to be present at their opening had been received from the Taihape and Taumarunui Clubs, but as the president was regrettably unable to be present, messages of regret and thanks were being forwarded. On Labour Day a progressive pairs tournament is being held, starting at 9 a.m., and the committee expressed the hope that all members turn up in good time and so ensure an enjoyable day’s play. DR I IDS’ LODGE The fortnightly meeting of Miro Lodge No. 79 U.A.O.D. was held in the Druids’ Hall on Wednesday, when A.D. Bro. Oliver presided over an attendance of about 20 members. After the disposal of formal business, a welcome was given to P.A. Bro. Green, of Aramoho Lodge, who was in attendance as a visitor. The secretary reported that the “cheerio” to Bro. Eyes, who has been in the Buller Hospital for many months, had been given over 2ZW on the previous Sunday morning. During the evening D.P. Bro. Davis presented to the lodge the Drury Cup, which had been won by Miro Lodge in a competition for gaining new members, the other competing lodges being Marton and Taihape. It was decided that, provided the date was suitable to Rev. Dobbs, the lodge members should attend a church parade on Sunday, November 7. The initiation of a new member was capably performed by the officers and arrangements were completed with, regard to the past officers taking control cf the next meeting on October 27. Following the cue closing of the lodge, members indulged in supper, indoor bowls, tab-e tennis and quoits.
