W.D.F.U.

TURAKINA BRANCH On Thursday evening. October 7. the Turakina Town Hall was the scene of a very enjoyable dance hela by the Turakina branch of the W.D.F.U. Delightful music was played by the New Gaiety Dance Band ana during the evening Barrie Trussell played a xylophone solo which was enthusiastically encored.

The Monte Carlo dance was won by Mrs C. Connors and Mr Smith. Mr and Mrs J. Cater won the spot waltz. Extras were played by Messrs F. Johnson and H. Davies. Messrs J. Cater and C. Perry were M’s.C. The cushion donated by Mrs W, Glasgow was won by Mrs Carlyle (Marton). The ladies supplied a delicious savoury supper. Among those present were:—Mesdames R. M. Interest is being centred around the handwork and hobbies competitions

which is to be held in the Women’s Division rooms next Wednesday, October 20. The several classes for hobbies and applied art, the fancywork section, the knitting section and hand-made flowers should attract a large number of entries. The members of the W.D.F.U. are noted for their excellent displays of handcraft and the numerous classes in the schedule have given scope for all kinds of work. The class for best collection of any hobby should attract many interesting entries.
