CRICKET CLUB ANNUAL MEETING The annual general meeting of the Hunterville Cricket Club was held this week, Mr R. M. S. Jones presiding over a fair attendance. The annual report and balancesheet were read and adopted. The annual report stated: “In presenting the annual report for the 1936-37 season your committee are pleased to report that the club’s finances are in a satisfactory position. Last season was marred by quite a large proportion of wet Saturdays and the competition suffered accordingly. The Hunterville Club did not nearly perform up to expectations due largely to the non-attend-ance at the bi-weekly practices. This season we would like to see some definite plan formulated whereby all members would be notified as to the time and days of practice so that nonattendance without some concrete reason would result in the exclusion from the team. A committee could be formed whose duties it is to botn prepare the wicket and see that everything is ready so that there is no delay in starting practice at the proper time.

“The ground last year was kept In its customary good condition and out thinks in this respect are due firstly to the Domain Board who so kindly allow us to use the ground and who keep the outfield cut and the place tidy, and secondly to Mr Ray Baker, whose unflagging energies in keeping the pitch in first-class order and condition cricket in Hunterville and tht players owe a debt it would be hard to repay. Our congratulations to Mr Hayward and Mr Powell, who gaineu representative honours lust season. We played quite a number of weekend games last year and they were enjoyed by all. The ’Ork Cup was again in evidence and we had some very pleasant games in pursuit ot this trophy, which was once again won by the Palmerston North team, to whom we offer our congratulations. We also congratulate the Marton team on winning the Manley Shield. A word in season here for the Hunterville boys on winning the Arkwright Shield. It is from the players in this competition that we look for the future players in Hunterville ano we would like to see the club rendering all the assistance possible to the local lads.

“In conclusion I would like to thank again Mr Baker for his efforts in regards Id the wicket, all those who have so generously donated towards the club's funds, Mrs Jones for so kindly donating a cup to the club and all who in any way assisted in the welfare of the club and also our fellow cricketers who have made the game worth playing."
