ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES
COMMISSION’S REPORT. [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Oct. 15. The Boundary Commissioners in the final report submitted to Parliament to-dav recommended that the law should be altered in cases where it is found desirable to extend the boundary of a no-licence district so as to include licensed premises. The Commission recommends the Government to introduce legislation to provide that under such circumstances the licence shall in no way be affected by such boundary alteration. The report also recommends that regard should be had for the community of interest in adjusting the boundaries and the present permitted margin above or below the quota should be increased from one per cent, for urban electorates and from 5i to 10 per cent, in rural electorates. The changes made from the provisional boundaries, announced earlier, are not important and a large number of petitions against the elemination of the Chalmers electorates was not sustained. Some changes in name had been approved. For instance Palmerston is to be known as Palmerston North; Parnell is to be renamed Remuera; and Manukau is to be called Onehunga.
