N.Z. NATIONAL PARTY

MARTON WOMEN’S SECTION. The women’s section of the N.Z. National Party held a very successful meeting at Marton on Thursday afternoon. Miss Beckett gave a report of the recent Dominion Conference held in Wellington and also read Mrs. Gordon’s report. “The conference of the National Party held in Wellington on September 30, was indeed an inspiration to all who attended it,” the report stated. ‘The large Masonic Hall was full, with 300 delegates arranged according to the districts they came from, as well as a large number of interested listeners who filled the back of the hall. A spirit of real optimism and enthusiasm was evident from the beginning. Colonel Weston, president of the National Party, gave a resume of the year’s activities and he was later unanimously elected president for another year. “It is very evident that a great amount of ‘spade-work’ has been done by the president and his committee in Wellington, all paving the way for a successful campaign during the next 13 months. The highlight of the conference was the speech by the hon. Adam Hamilton, in which he enunciated the policy of the National Party. All of the 26 points were well considered and sane and they met with the entire approval of the conference.

It was arranged that about 16 of these points will be published to give the public the main outline of the party’s policy. As time goes on and the Labour Party’s Socialistic legislation proceeds, further planks will necessarily come into the National Party’s policy. “One could not but be impressed with the speech and policy of the National Party. He is a plain-spoken man, but assuredly has the confidence of the whole party to a marked degree.”
