FIRE AT RABAUL
BURNS, PHILP COMPANY STORE AND OFFICES DESTROYED Received Oct. 14, 10.19 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 14. Radio advice has been received that the main store and offices of Messrs. Burns Philp and Company, at Rabaul, were destroyed by fire overnight. The damage has not been ■‘stimated. Further word of the fire discloses that the wohle population was almost panic stricken, hundreds of natives rushing out of the town, fearing that the volcanoes were again erupting. Their fear was intensified by screaming ships’ sirens and violent explosions in the burning buldings.
