Intermediate School Race.
Approximately 180 boys of the Wanganui Intermediate School competed yesterday in a cross-country race, but owing to a number of the runners mistaking the course it was decided to withhold publication of results until the matter had been investigated. The course was over a distance of 31 miles and led from the school, up Victoria Avenue, around Glasgow Street Extension and out Springvale Road. The runners crossed several paddocks half-way up this road and came out on Devon Lane, which was followed to its end. Two muddy paddocks were then traversed and the trail led’round to Liverpool Street and finished on the school playing ground. It was in Springvale Road that the marker who was sent out stood at the wrong spot, with the result that a number of runners covered half a-mile more than they should have done. The high wind prevailing at the time scattered the paper trail laid, and this did much to confuse competitors. If the race is to be re-run it will be held on Thursday next at the same time.
