Mr J. B. Cotterill, M.P. for Wanganui, travelled to Wellington yesterday in the railcar used by the general manager of railways.

Messrs. M. Cable, L. B. Hutton, D. McGillivray, and L. Norton Taylor are to act as assessors in connection with negotiations with the Tramways Union for a new industrial agreement. Mr. E. A. Balt has been re-elected chairman of the executive committee of the Automobile Association (Wellington) and Mr. H. W. Shortt vicechairman.

Mr. R. 11. Bevan, chief agronomist of the Department of Agriculture, Tasmania, and a graduate of Canterbury Agricultural College, has been appointed lecturer in agriculture at Canterbury Agricultural College.

Mr. G. N. Boulton, secretary of the Wanganui Education Board, visited Palmerston North on Wednesday evening to address parents of pupils attending the Whakarongo School on the board’s consolidation proposals.

Mr. H. White, who- for the past 12 years has been the chief of the service staff at Foster’s Hotel, has been appointed manager of the St. John's Club, Wanganui. He was farewelled by the management and staff of Foster’s Hotel on relinquising his post.

The late Mr C. W. Poynter, whose death occurred suddenly on Wednesday, was one of the early members of the Union Boat Club and a former club secretary. He was always a keen but quiet supporter of the club as a vice-president and trustee and his death will be a loss to the club.

The general manager of railways (Mr. G. H. Mackey), the commercial manager (Mr. H. W. Wellsted), the chief engineer (Mr. G. T. Bertinshaw) and the chief accountant (Mr. W. Bishop) left Wanganui for Wellington yesterday morning in the genera! manager’s railcar.

Mr S. E. McGregor, inspector of factories, has received notice of his transfer to Christchurch, where he will be second inspecting officer for his department. Mr H. A. Gatward, of Christchurch, will succeed Mr McGregor in Wanganui. Mr McGregor took over from Mr E. Gohns when the later retired on superannuation, and has been in Wanganui for nearly three years.

Mr T. Miller, of the staff of the Union Bank of Australia, has received notice of his transfer to Pukekohe, where he has been been appointed accountant of the bank’s branch at that centre. Mr Miller has been stationed in Wanganui for the past eight years, and has taken an active part in St. Mary’s Boy Scout Troop. Mr Miller will be replaced in Wanganui by Mr F. Grace, of Wellington.
