This hole in the hull of the British tanker Stanbridge is 6ft wide and 10ft up from the waterline. It was made when the vessel was bombed by aeroplanes at Gijon when carrying a thousand refugees from Spanish territory. The Stanbridge put into Falmouth for repairs on September 18.
