BRAVE RESCUE WORK
RECOGNITION AT AUCKLAND I Per Press Association. 1 AUCKLAND, Oct. 11. The rescue of the naval boat's crew off Karaka Bay, St. Heliers, in which a City Council officer, Mr. C. E. Tilby, participated, was commended at the council’s meeting to-night by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis. “Before proceeding with the business of the meeting,” said the Mayor, “I should like to refer to the conspicuous bravery shown on September 30 last by a member of the council’s staff. Inspector C. E. Tilby, of the sanitary department, and a resident of St. Helier’s Bay, Mr. H. H. Partride, in connection with the rescuing of the crew of one of the boats which capsized in the naval race on Auckland Harbour. This is a case of giving credit where credit is due and I feel that the council should this evening pass appropriate resolutions. Captain Glennie of the Achilles has promised to forward to me a full report which I shall send on to the authorities with a recommendation that Inspector Tilby and Mr. Partridge should be considered for an award of the Royal Humane Society.”
The following motions by the Mayor were carried unanimously: “That the council records its high appreciation of the rescue work carried out by a member of the Sanitary Department’s staff, Mr Tilby, on September 30, 1937, after the capsize of one of the boats competing in th? naval races on Auckland Harbour, congratulates him on the result of Ipis endeavours and expresses its pride in the service* to others he per-
formed on that occasion. Further that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr Tilby,". 'That this meeting of the CityCouncil tenders its congratulations to Mr Partridge on the rescue work earned out by him and records its appreciation of same.”
