SITE FOR RADIO BEACON
PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS OFFICIALS VISIT RUSSELL RUSSELL, Oct. 9. In a search for the most suitable spot for Pan American Airways’ radio beacon, Messrs. Harold Gatty, Buxton and Chalmers have explored the hilltops extending from Long Beach to Flagstaff Hill. The location for the station will be decided after consultations in Auckland.
Mr. Gatty met Mr. A. E. Bisset, chairman of the Russell Town Board, who, with Mr. A. Hitchcock, town clerk, accompanied the party to some of the sites, which, however, owing to their inaccessibility, were regarded as unsuitable. Mr. Bisset assured Mr. Gatty that the Town Board would be pleased to assist in any direction in the plans of the company.
