I MEETING AT WELLINGTON [ Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Oct. 10. A meeting of jockeys at Ellerslie yesterday considered the advisability of forming an Association of New Zealand jockeys, and appointed a provisional committee to draft rules for submission to a meeting at Trentham a fortnight hence. The intention, it was stated, was to register a Dominion-wide organisation of jockeys and later meet the New Zealand Racing Conference in reference to rates of remuneration and conditions of employment. RACES AT BULLS RANGITIKEI SPRING FIXTURE NOMINATIONS TO-DAY Increased stakes are a commendable feature of the programme for the Rangitikei Racing Club’s spring meeting, which will be held at Bulls on Saturday, October 30. Last year £735 was spread over the seven races at this gathering, but the committee have decided to n?ake the meeting more attractive to owners and trainers, and have increased the stake money to £955. The open events are the J. E. McKelvie Memorial Handicap, of £2OO, H miles; the Clifton Handicap, of £l5O, six furlongs; and the Sandon Handicap Hurdles, of £l4O, 14 miles. The Trial Stakes, for maidens at time of starting, is worth £100; and hack flat races are the Ohakea Hack Handicap, of £l2O, six furlongs; the Rangitoto Hack Handicap, of £125, one mile and la distance; and the Farewell Hack 'Handicap, of £l2O, seven furlongs. I Since last meeting the course has ! received careful attention and both [grass and plough tracks are now in [line order. New stalls have been erected, rails and fences have been repaired or replaced where necessary, while the jockeys’ semaphore is being enlarged. The top entrance is being improved and the road to the terrace is being metalled. North cars will enter the course by this road, relieving the congestion noticeable last March by all cars using one entrance | at the southern end. In order that the catexers may cope with the crowd expected, .special provision will be made under the main grandstand. New telephones are being erected, and the semaphore will join the circuit, thus enabling dividends and other information to be shown with the minimum of delay. Loud-speakers will broadcast the running of races, and supply music during the intervals. The en closures bear a well kept appearance, and everything will be in first-class I order for the meeting. Free stabling and accommodation on the course at reasonable cost should induce many owners and trainers to stay at Bulls after their horses have raced at Waverley and Trentham on Labour Day. Nominations for all events at the Rangitikei meeting close at 9 o'clock to-night with the i secretary, Mr. E. V. Wilson, Bulls ’ (’phone 65, Bulls).
