A FAREWELL PARTY

On Monday night at the Rendezvous, Mr and Mrs Snelling entertained about 70 guests at a dance and social evening in honour of their son, Mr Douglas Snelling, who is leaving shortly for America where he intends to further his studies as a commercial artist. Insperspersed between dances, items were given by Mrs G. Perrett (songs) and Mr G. P. Williamson (songs) and competitions were won by Miss M. Stone and Mr C. Sharland. Misses Stewart and Wishart won the Monte Carlo dance. Music for dancing was provided by Mr A. Ramsey, Miss Cornish and Mr C. Sharland. Mr A. Graham acted as M.C.

During the evening opportunity was taken by Mr D. Christie to say a few words on behalf of those present. He referred to the fine character and outstanding talent of Mr D. Snelling. Having known the family ever since they had been in Wanganui, Mr Christie had watched Doug’s progress and hoped ho would endeavour to make the most of his opportunities. When he leaves to further his studies in America the best wishes of his friends will go with him. A small gift, was handed to Mr Snelling by Mr A. Graham, who expressed the feelings of the young people present and added his best wishes. Mr Snelling suitably replied, the company joining in with “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” A dainty buffet supper was served downstairs, and the evening terminated with “Auld Lang Syne.” Among the guests were:—Mr and Mrs G.
