ESTIMATES PRESENTED MINISTER’S STATEMENT AIR FORCE INCREASES SQUADRON AT DARWIN (By Teksraph—Tress Association—Copyright) CANBERRA, Sept. 9. Sir A. Parkhill, in introducing the defence estimates in the House of Representatives, said that an air force squadron equipped with reconnaissance, fighter and bomber aircraft would bo established at Darwin this financial year. In an enlarged naval programme three anti-submarine vessels would bn built and £725,000 would bo spent on coast defences. The new fighting aircraft on order would have a speed of 300 miles an hour. Eight squadrons were now being finished. A first line strength of 96 aircraft had now been organised, and nine more squadrons, with 102 aircraft, would be formed. The cruisers Canberra and Australia will be armoured more heavily.
