BULLS

TOWN BOARD MEETING The monthly meeting of the Bulls Town Board was held on Thursday evening. Present were Messrs. J. E. Walker (chairman), J. J. Mansell, F. A. Holland, A. W. Amon and C. H. Edwards. Mr. C. Price sent an apology for non-attendance. Foreman S. Howard reported on work done for the month as follows: Lower High and Church Streets have been metalled; Hammond Street has been patched with screened metal, and metal has been spread to the end of Flower Street. Metal has been felled in pit, and big stones have been carted out. The water-table in High Street has been cleaned out, and a start has been made on the drains in Johnstone Street. Paths at cemetery have been kept mown. Transfer of property from Fred Stock to Frank Stock was approved. Wandering Cows.—lt was reported that the footpath in Johnstone Street is in a filthy state through cows being regularly grazed on the roadside, and the clerk was instructed to communicate with the Rangitikei County Council, under whose jurisdiction the street is.

Main Highways.—The foreman reported that the surface of both main highways required immediate attention, the tar-sealing having perished in many places.—The clerk was instructed to write to Mr. Sampson about the matter. It was reported also that the levels of the channelling in Upper High Street are not true, and it was resolved to attend to the water-channels as soon as the weather permitted. Footpaths in several parts of the township are also being damaged by tree-roots breaking the bitumen, but the board’s powers to compel property-owners to cut the roots was not defined. It was suggested that the spaces between the concrete footpaths and fences, which are now very muddy, could be filled up. Domain.—During the recent wet weather charabancs and cars entering the Domain have cut up the road from the main gate to the sports ground, and the Bulls Football Club is to be asked to take control of the motor traffic when football matches are being played there, and to direct motorists to proceed across the unmown grass alongside the present roadway. Otherwise it may be necessary to stop vehicles from entering the domain, which would be an inconvenience to patrons of Rugby who usually witness matches from their cars in wet weather. It was pointed out that cars are not allowed on other grounds in the Rangitikei SubUnion.

Finance.—Accounts were passed for payment under the following headings: District fund, £92 8s 7d (including lighting £l5 2s sd, and Hospital Board levy £37 17s 2d); library, £7 (wages £3 ss; novels £3 15s). Collections for the month were: Rents, £l4 18s; heavy traffic licence, £B7 8s 2d; car-drivers’ licences, £3O; library subscriptions, £1 3s; library rent, £2; domain, £1 6s; total, £136 15s 2d. Cyclists Warned. General complaints having been received that cyclists are using the footpaths, to the danger of pedestrians, the police are to be asked to take drastic action against offenders.
