MAN’S AMAZING ESCAPE [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, June 10. Buried under three tons of scoria and trapped in the cabin of his lorry, Leonard Hunter had an amazing escape this morning when a sudden landslide overwhelmed him in a scoria quarry on Mount Roskill. His two companions, William Fennessey and H. Ingham, were almost swept to death as the landslide rushed down the steep face. None was seriously injured. The lorry driver lay buried for over an hour, but did not suffer. Fennessey, who started to slide with the fall and was pulled out of danger by Ingham, was struck by some rubble and taken to hospital suffering from shock and abrasions. STRUCK BY TAXI WOMAN BADLY INJI I'LL [ Per Tress Association. J LEVIN, June 10. Struck by a taxi on the main highway at Mar.uk ui last evening, krs W. C. Dorset, a resident of that township, received extensive injuries. She was taken to F alm erst on Norin Hospital in a serious condition. Mr.; Dorset was crossing the road from the the railway station to a dance from an almost stationary car. She failed to notice the aproach of the taxi, driven by Henry Allen, of Wellington CAR OVERTURNS THE DRIVER KILIED I Per Pies* Association. 7 WAIPUKURAU, June 10. Edwin Thomas Whelch, aged 19, son of Mr and Mrs T. E. Whelch, Lake Station, Hatuma, was kiled instantly at 9 o’clock last evening when the car he was driving struck a bank and overturned on the Ngahape Road. A passenger, Mrs M. H. Dalby, Porangahau, escaped with minor injuries and shock. The inquest was opened to-day for identification. DEAD BODY FOUND AGED MAN’S END [ Per Press Association, i ASHBURTON, June 10. The body of James Maxwell, aged 70, who had been missing from the Taurangi Old Men's Home since May 22, was found in the riverbed. He had been dead some days, and apparently his end came peacefully. Maxwell had a wife and family at Ohertsey.
