MAN’S AMAZING ESCAPE [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, June 10. Buried under three tons of scoria and trapped in the cabin of his lorry, Leonard Hunter had an amazing escape this morning when a sudden landslide overwhelmed him in a scoria quarry on Mount Roskill. His two companions, William Fennessey and H. Ingham, were almost swept to death as the landslide rushed down the steep face. None was seriously injured. The lorry driver lay buried for over an hour, but did not suffer. Fennessey, who started to slide with the fall and was pulled out of danger by Ingham, was struck by some rubble and taken to hospital suffering from shock and abrasions. The body of James Maxwell, aged 70, who had been missing from the Taurangi Old Men's Home since May 22, was found in the riverbed. He had been dead some days, and apparently his end came peacefully. Maxwell had a wife and family at Ohertsey.
