N.Z. ami British Navy. New Zealand’s contribution toward! the upkeep of the British Navy wa: mentioned during the course of an ad* dress given to the Palmerston North Rotary Club by Captain J. R. Middleton, D. 5.0., R.N., of Foxton. He stated that the people of Britain paid an average of £2 per head, whereas New Zealanders paid approximately Gs Sd per head. He thought the Dominion could afford to pull its weight a little better. Even on the basis of exports and imports, New Zealanders only paid one-tenth of what those living in the British Isles were called upon to pay. New Zealand should at least contribute to the upkeep of four cruisers instead of two. He was glad to see the steps being taken to provide adequate air defences but hoped the Prime Minister and his colleagues in England at present, would return with a revised opinion of *’*••• Zealand should do to hein.
