The Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company has been touring Australia and New Zealand for 22 months. “Curse It. Failed Again!” or “Ruined by Drink." melodrama burlesqued, is amusing London audiences. “Seventh Heaven.” “Seventh Heaven.” the famous Austin Strong play, is made into a motion picture for the second time. It was « record-breaker during its stage run and, as a silent picture with Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell as its stars, was a feature amongst silent motion pictures. Simone Simon, the charming little French actress seen in “Girls’ Dormitory” and “Ladies in Love,” costars in this 20th. Century-Fox love story, with James Stewart as leading jnan.

“Madge Elliott is a legitimate Prince, as quick on the beat as gallant on the cue, and a credit to her tailor,” says a London paper in referring to the pantomime “Cinderella” at the Colisseum Theatre. “The Vagabond King” Revived. That highly popular musical romance, “The Vagabond King.” will follow the pantomime at the Coliseum Theatre. London. Derek Oldham, who played the title role in the original production at the Winter Garden, is singing in Gilbert and Sullivan in America. Another musical revival will be of Offenbach’s “The Grand Duchess,” which is to go to the Savoy. The name of Enid Cruickshank has been mentioned in connection with the principal part.

Maria Ouspenska, who played the old mother in “Dodsworth,” has been given a contract by M.G.M. A Golden Voice. Nightly, occupants of flats and buildings in the heart of Mayfair have been listening to a Metropolitan Opera star without having to sit in orchestral stalls. In his flat, Michael Bartlett, the opera star who played opposite Grace Moore in “Love Me Forever.” practises in order to keep his wonderful voice in perfect condition. He is now in London to star with June Knight in the Capitol film, “The Lilac Domino.” Bartlett delights all his listeners so much that when he has sung a practice number he gets a series of telephone calls asking him to sing again. It has reached the stage now when they ask him to make a point of practising their favourite songs.

* Lune Velez and Johnny Weissmuller are making stage appearances in America at a salary of £llOO a week. John Barrymore Files his Petition. John Barrymore, the film star, has filed a debtor’s petition of bankruptcy in the Federal Court, says a message from Hollywood. In his petition he states that he was unable to meet his debts as they matured, and desires to effect “a composition or extension of time” to liquidate them. Her Past. Gladys George, who graduated from stage stardom in Broadway’s “Personal Appearance” to stardom on the screen in Paramount’s “Valiant is the Word for Carrie,” once was the “Child Marvel” with a medicine show.
