REGENT THEATRE

‘THE BIG NOISE” I I “The Big Noise,” concluding to- ! night at the Regent Theatre, has Guy Kibbee in the leading role- He plays ’the deposed president of a clothing firm who starts out at the bottom once more in a dyeing and cleaning business rather than agree to adopting a process which would produce inferior material. There is no dull moment in this energetic comedy. Warrell Hull and Alma Lloyd make an attractive young couple, and Mane and a parrot provide plenty of humour. On the same programme “Road Gang” is a powerful drama with a glamorous romance of a girl who battles to establish the innocence of the man she loves who has been framed and sent to a terrible penal institute. The cast includes Donald Woods, Kay Linaker, Carlyle Moore, jnr., Henry O’Neill, Joseph King and Addison Richards. “Stolen Holiday” For several excellent reason “Stolen Holiday,” which opens at the Regent Theatre to-morrow, is a fine film. It is strong, emotional, romantic drama, and it presents its star, Kay Francis,' with a most impressive series of dresses to wear. Then there is acting which is at times magnificent. Two leading men divide male honours—the handsome, quiet, restrained lan Hunter, so quiet that he dodges most of the limelight which is rightfully his and Claude Rains, the unforgettable “Invisible Man.” Nicole rises to eminence with the financial backing of Orloff, to whom she is intensely loyal. During a stolen holiday from him, following a delightful interlude on the Riviera, she meets and falls thoroughly in love with a British diplomat, Anthony Wayne. ! She sticks to Orloff, however, deI spite her discovery that he is an i audacious crook and that he is forcing her into a loveless marriage, until his death at the hands of the police leaves her free to pursue her romance with the handsome Englishman, but reduced once more to the status of a mannequin. All of which conveys little conception of the splen- | dour of the setting and staging of the i story.
