“BELOVED ENEMY” AT CIVIC THEATRE TO-NIGHT Merle Oberon and David Niven whose real-life romance has thrilled their countless fans, are cast together on the screen for the first time in Samuel Goldwyn’s “Beloved Enemy,” which begins at the Civic Theatre today. Brian Aherne is starred opposite Merle as the successful lover of the film story, however, while Niven is cast as the young man who loves her but tor whom she feels only a sisterly affection. The beautiful romance is carried on under lire amid the bloodshed and terror of the rebellion. Karen Morley, Henry Stephenson, and Jerome Cowan are featured with Niven in the supporting cast, while others prominently cast are Donald Crisp, Ra Hould, the promising c.hr. actor, Granville Bates, Pat O’Malley, Jack Mulhall, Claude King, Wyndham Standing, David Torrence and Theodore Von Eltz. MARTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING The monthly committee meeting of the Marton District High School was held on Tuesday evening, Dr. R. A. Church presiding over Messrs. A. Gracie, H. Frederick, T. C. Ward, C. M. Holderway, L. Williams, H. T- Ellison, G. Thomas (secretary) and Mr. A. W. Tucker (headmaster). The headmaster reported he had received a total of £8 8s 6d by public subscriptions for the new radio, and the committee thanked the people concerned for their donations. It was left in the hands of Mr. Ward to purchase two typewriters for the commercial classes. Mr. Ward offered to supply a 45gallon oil drum to store waste paper until the caretaker burnt it. The committee thanked Mr. Ward for his offer. The visiting committee’s report was read and discussed. The headmasters report staled that the attendance has suffered through bad weather and sickness, and the average roll has slightly decreased. Details are as follows:—Primary Dept-: Roll 319, average attendance 299, per cent, of attendance 93. Secondary Dept..: Roll 89, average attendance 85, per cent, of attendance 95. The headmaster outlined the need of repairs and requirements. The headmaster said that the Coronation medals had been given to the children. It was decided to see if it was possible to see some Coronation film at the expense of the committee, owing to the fact that the children were unable to have any Coronation celebrations in Marton. The Borough Council is to help financially. A football was received from the Rugby Union with thanks, but it was thought that a school the size of Marton should be given more than one ball. The visiting committee for the current month is Messrs. L. Williams and H. T. Ellison.
