ALLEGATIONS OF FAKING
SOUTH AFRICAN BROADCAST CONTRIBUTION TO CORONATION DAY CAPETOWN, June 8. The Cape Argus has caused a sensation with allegations of the faking of South Africa’s contribution to the Empire Coronation Day broadcast. It states that the roars of a lion from Kruger Park were actually the recorded roars of Samson, the pet lion at the Pretoria Zoo. Also that the supposed speeches by an Africkander and a Natal sugar planter were broadcast by local men from Capetown. FAKE ADMITTED j KRUGER LIONS REFUSED TO ROAR Received June 9, 11.20 p.m. LONDON, June 9. The British Broadcasting Corporation is inquiring into the reported take broadcast. The Daily Mail's Capetown correspondent says that the South African Broadcasting Corporation admit the fake, saying It was transmitted by order of the head office at Johannesburg. The record of the pet | lion was used because the Kruger Park lions refused to roar.
