SAND DUNE AFFORESTATION
Sir,-—lt is pleasing to note that the scheme inaugurated at Kaitoke is being carried on by the Tourist and Development League and the Bondholders’ Committee may justly feel that their interest has borne fruit. My committee is of the opinion that insufficient attention is being given to the raising of young trees at the camp nursery and trust that steps will be taken to ensure a supply of at least 100,000 trees per annum for planting out. It is gratifying to note that some 10,000 young trees have been secured for this year's planting; these should not be planted out too early. Completion of the fencing has also been stressed by the Bondholders’ Committee and if carried out will enable the natural growth for shelter to make headway. At the invitation of the league, Messrs D. McGregor, Moore, Blyth, and F. Pritchard, three of the original committee, have agreed to join the league to assist on the Afforestat’.on Committee. With the practical knowledge these gentlemen have they should be of material assistance in furthering the work of sanddune afforestation. —I am, etc., D. E. DUSTIN, Chairman, Bondholders’ Committee.
