OFF-THE COURSE BETTING
PROBLEM SOLVED IN QUEENSLAND. Received June 8, 11.5 p.m. BRISBANE, June 8. It is reported that the new Queensland laws against starting-price betting, which makes off-the-course betting an offence punishable by heavy fines and imprisonment, bave entirely killed hotel betting and reduced the number of betting shops from 700 to 40, and increased racecourse attendances by 250 per cent.
