Two- = tooth wethers sold at 24s 4d. Lambs ■ also were in belter request. i Fat Lambs.—Only a handful were forward and these sold well up to schedule rates, top price being 35s lOd. Fat Sheep.—A moderate penning of a little less than 4000, quality being indifferent. A good sale with an adi vance of from is to Is 6d for good j ewes and wethers; lighter sorts unj changed. Unusually short markets and -firmer values, especially lor wethers, calves and pigs, characterised the sale at Westfield to-day. No heavy beet was available, the quality generally being i inferior to that offered at recent sales. | Ox improved Is to 31s per 100 lb. for best grade and other classes ranged: Choice and prime ox 27s to 30s, unfinished 24s to 275, prime cow and heifer 24s to 28s, unfinished 17s to 235; heavy steers £ll to £ll 17s 6d, medium £lO to £ll 2s 6d, light £9 to £lO 10s, unfinished £6 to £9; extra heavy cows and heifers £8 to £ll 10s, heavy £6 10s to £7 17s 6d, medium £5 15s to £6 17s 6d, light £4 5s to £5 15s, unlinished £3 to £4 ss. An average entry of sheep included several prime pens of wethers which advanced Is each under keen competition. Good ewes were firm. Extra heavy wethers 35s to 37s 3d, heavy 33s to 35s 6d, medium 31s to 33s 6d, light 27s to 30s 9d, unfinished 16s to 26s 6d; extra heavy ewes 26s 6d to 28s 9d, heavy 25s to 26s 6d, medium 23s to 24s 6d, light 19s to 23s 6d, unfinished 8s to 18s 6d. Fewer lambs were sold at late quotations, prime sorts making 21s to 31s 6d, unfinished 12s 6d to 20s 6d. The yarding of calves was the smallest for about two years and after the recent steady decline values rose sharply by about 8s each. Runners £2 10s to £6 13s, heavy vealers £4 to £5 2s, medium £3 8s to £3 16s, light £3 to £3 6s, smaller £2 4s to £2 15s, unfinished £1 7s to £2 2s, bobby and rough 6s to £1 7s. Pigs were scarcer than at any other sale for about four years and some values were the best obtained in that period, although quality was merely fair and patchy. Choppers £2 to £3 6d, heavy baconers £3 15s to £4 Bs, medium £3 10s to £3 14s, light £3 to £3B, heavy porkers £2 14s to £2 19s, medium £2 7s to £2 12s, light £2 Is to £2 4s, unfinished £1 to £1 17s, stores 17s to 28s, slips 10s to 16s, weaners 4s to Ils. Baconers averaged 6Jd per lb. and porkers 6d to 6Jd per lb. FORDELL SALE YESTERDAY’S OFFERINGS TOTAL CLEARANCE EFFECTED The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. (Inc.’ in England) offered a yarding of 2500 sheep and 50 head of cattle at yesterday’s Fordell sale to a good attendance of buyers. Bidding was brisk throughout and a total clearance was effected ■ under the hammer. ! Ewes from Mount View Station met with a particularly keen demand, 1 4-tooth ewes making 355. 6-tooth ; making 36s Id, 2-tooth 35s 6d and the ! f. f.m. making 32s 3d. Wether lambs i sold well at late rates, at prices up to ‘ 20s. A pen of forward Cheviot lambs, late shorn, made 16s 4d. Forward b.f. : lambs made up to 16s lOd.
