REGENT THEATRE

“THE BIG NOISE" In "The Big Noise," commencing today at the Regent Theatre, Warner Bros, have produced one of those happy domestic comedies seen all too seldom on the screen. Guy Kibbee makes of this film a challenge to youth; a protest on behalf of age. Deposed from the presidency of his cloth mills because he will not approve the manufacture of a new and inferior synthetic material, he is persuaded to retire to a Californian sunshine resort for an old-age cure. But sitting about "here, there, or some other place ’ does not accord with the restless nature of Mr Kibbee, and, under pretence of joining a club, he begins all over again in a dyeing and cleaning business. There is no dull moment in this energetic comedy. Warren Hull and Alma Lloyd make an attractive young couple, and Marie Wilson and a parrot provide plenty of humour. Jn “Road Gang" Donald Woods has the leading role of a newspaper correspondent sent to prison on a trumped-up charge. Kay Linaker gives a splendid performance as the sweetheart of Woods. “Stolen Holiday” Based upon fact upon a scandal which stirred France socially and politically—“ Stolen Holiday,” the Regent Theatre’s Saturday feature, is as fine ad ramatic production as one could wish to see on the screen. The picture is remarkable for its fine acting by Kay Francis, who is ably supported by Claude Reins, lan Hunter, Alison Skipworth, and others.
