raetihi tennis club. VALEDICTORY. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Moor, who left on Saturday morning for their new residence at Te Awamutu, were the guests of honour at an informal gathering of the members of the Raetihi Tennis Club on Friday evening. Speeches were made by the club captain (Mr. H. P. Manson), the oldest member present (Mr. D. V. Sandford), the secretary (Mr. J. A. Mcßride), Mrs. H. V. Marshall and the president (Mr. H. V. Marshall), and in each of these the services to the tennis club of both Mr. and Mrs. Moor were eulogised and the termination of their 13 years’ association with the club was deeply regretted. In calling upon the guests to accept an imposing vase of beaten brass as an expression of the esteem of members, the president wished Mr. and Mrs. Moore the best of everything for the future. In reply Mr. Moore thanked those present for their gesture in holding the function and making the presentation which would be kept as a permanent memento of many years of happy association with the Raetihi Tennis Club. The gathering dispersed after an enthusiastic rendering of musical honours. RAETIHI WRESTLING CLUB. At the weekly gathering of the above club, following a series of physical exercises from the club’s instructor (Mr. S. McNicol), a number of bouts were indulged in. The following are the results, the winners being mentioned first:—G. Wade v. F. McGrath, one fall to nil; A. Wade v. N. Mosen, draw (no falls); E. Dauphin v. S. McNicol, one fall; W. Cole v. E. Gorringe, two falls to nil; A. Wade v. Manning, one fall; G. Wade v. R. Herbert, three falls; W. Cole v. C. O’Connell, one fall. RUAPEHU RUGBY SUB-UNION. At the fortnightly meeting of the management committee the following were present: Mr. L. V. Carmine (president, in the chair), and Messrs. J. H. Hardie, S. Moor, W. Hall, M. Friedlander, F. Soar, G. A. Howie, Byfod, W. McLeod, J. Garmonsvvay. On the secretary reporting that the school footballs had arrived it was decided to present one each to the following schools for this year: Raetihi, Ohakune, Pokaka, Rangataua, Horopito, Karioi and Orautoha. The Taihape sub-union wrote agreeing to allow A. Fleming, Kennedy brothers and N. Stevens to play for the Ruapehu Sub-Union. Approval was given to the secretary’s action in accepting Saturday, June 26, as the date for Taihape’s visit to this area. It was decided to ask Taihape if this game, which is to be played at Ohakune, be for the Main Trunk Cup. The Ohakune Club wrote protesting that the United juniors played two seniors who had not been regraded in their team. The letter was received and the matter was held over till more particulars are supplied. The explanation of Mr. S. Moor in allowing J. Garmonsway to play one junior match for United was received and accepted. Further personal application was made by J. Garmonsway for regrading. He stated that it was six years since he had played football. He had played senior football for six years and had represented Ruapehu on six occasions. The classification committee decided not to regrade Mr. Garmonsway. Mr. S. Moor, owing to his departure from the district, tendered his resignation as referee’s representative in the union and on the classification committee. Mr. W. Hall was elected to the classification committee and the matter of filling the vacancy on the management committee was left to the Referees’ Association. Owing to the shorter periods of daylight at present, Mr. W. Howie suggested that senior games commence at 2.15 p.m. for the months of June and July. It was resolved that all clubs be notified that senior games will commence at 2.45 p.m. sharp, and where other teams are playing prior to this, they must vacate the ground by 2.45. The meeting concluded with a discussion on the matter of referees appearing in uniform. The matter was referred to the Referees’ Association. VALEDICTORY. The opportunity was taken at the meeting of the Ruapehu Rugby SubUnion, to bid farewell to Mr. S. Moor, who leaves for Te Awamutu shortly. The president (Mr. L. V. Carmine) said he regretted having to say farewell to Mr. Moor, who had, for the last 12 years, served Rugby football as a player, a referee, ana finally in an administrative capacity as a member of the Ruapehu Sub-Union. In presenting Mr. Moor with a cheque he wished him, his wife, and family the best of good fortune m their new sphere. , The president’s remarks were endorsed by Mr. J. H. Hardie on behalf of the Referees’ Association, Mr. L. Nation, Mr. W. Hull, Mr. M. Friedlander, Mr. F. Soar, Mr. G. A. Howie, and Mr. W. McLeod. Mr. Moor, in his reply made reference to the pleasure he had derived from his connection with football in the district, and tendered his thanks for the gift and the kindly words expressed that evening. It was decided at the meeting of the sub-union to place on record its appreciation of Mr. Moor's efforts during his term on the committee. WAIMARINO GOLF CLUB. During the week-end the first round of the Anderson match was played off with the following results:—F. Baddeley defeated Dr. W. J. Feltham 5 and 3; L. Strange defated M. C. Gould 5 and 3; C. Turner defeated C. Rickards 4 and 2; A. Webb defeated J. Boswell 3 and 1. In the feathers competition R. Marks and Mrs. M. Towler (who substituted for Mrs. A. G. Urwin) resisted the attack of F. Baddeley and Mrs. W. J. Feltham. In the King Country Championship, which is to be played off to-morrow, at Taumarunui, the following members of the Waimarino Golf Club have signified their intention of competing: —A. E. Urwin, A. Webb, H. V. Marshall, R. Marks. L. Strange, J. Haley, O. Eade, J. McCorkindale, C. Jackson, F. Orgias, L. Keucke, R. Attrill, c’ Kenderdine, G. Sullivan, D. Strauchan, K. Huddlestone, A. G. Urwin. Next week-end the second stroke

competition and the second qualifying round will be played off. Ladies’ Competitions. In the first round for the ladies’ handicap cup the following were the results over the week-end play:—Mrs. Cracroft Wilson defeated Mrs. C. M. Whyte; Miss L. Legge won from Miss Bryers by default; Mrs. M. Towler defeated Mrs. B. A. Drury; Mrs. H. V. Marshall defeated Mrs. Bryers; Miss I. Cracroft Wilson won from Mrs. A. Webb by default. Next week-end the ladies will play off the second stroke competition and L.G.U. medal round. PERSONAL. Mrs. H. S. Mills (Hobart) is visiting her sister, Mrs. B. A. Drury, of Raetihi. Mr. W. Barker, of the B.N.Z. staff has left on his annual vacation, which will include visits to the Chateau, Te Kuiti, Wairakei, and Auckland. Mr. G. Hardie, son of Mr. J. H. Hardie, of Ohakune, commenced duty at the Raetihi branch of the Bank of New Zealand on Monday. Mr. A. F. B. Small is acting as manager of the Raetihi branch of the Bank of New Zealand until the end of the month, when Mr. H. Smith, of Otautau, Southland, takes up his duties as manager. Mr. A. Collin, ol the local Post Office staff left on Monday for Waiuku, where he takes up a permanent appointment. Miss E. N. Brosnahan, Plunket Nurse, who has been on holiday, resumed her duties at Raetihi this week. Miss Dobson, relieving Plunket Nurse, has gone to Inglewood. Mr. N. Freidlander spent the weekend at the Chateau. WEATHER. Wintry weather made its appearance on Saturday. Snow, hail and sleet fell periodically during the day, the heaviest local falls being experienced at Horopito, Ohakune, Rangataua and Karioi, where the ground was completely covered. The heaviest frost to date was registered on Sunday morning. rlgby football. Owing to the severe weather conditions the seven-a-side Rugby tournaat Ohakune on Saturday was postponed to a later date. VALEDICTORY. A hastily gathered meeting of the Raetihi Foothall Club lolowers was held at the residence of Mr. W. Watson, Ranturly Terrace, for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr. and Mrs. S. Moore on the eve of their departure for Te Awamutu. Musical items held the gathering very interested, Mrs. Watson being particularly valuable at the piano. In presenting Mr. and Mrs. Moon with a set ol carvers, Mr. Watson (president of the Raetihi Football Club), voiced the general regreis of the sporting bodies of the town in losing them. The football club in particular would miss the invaluable services of these two people, who had been stalwarts of the club through all circumstances. Mr. B. A. Drury, patron of the club, spoke in glowing terms regarding Mr. Moor’s business and social integrity and feL that Raetihi would generally be the poorer for his going. Mr. Athol Cunningham, representing the United Football Club, eulogised Mr. Moor's services as a referee, player ahd follower. Other speakers were: Rev. W. W. Tristhum, Messrs. McNicol, Frjedlander, and Burgess. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Watson, Mr. and Mrs. Moor, Mrs. Coker, Rev. W. W. Tristtrum, Messrs. B. A. Drury, V. Frederickson. P. Bryers, C. M. Turner, G.
