TEMPERANCE UNION CENTRAL BRANCH The Wanganui Central branch of the Women's Christian Temperante Union held its usual monthly meeting on Thursday afternoon. There was a large number of members and friends present to celebrate "White Ribbon Day.” The White Ribbon, the official organ of the W.C.T.U., was first published on May 15, 1895, and this year celebrates its 42nd. anniversary. It is a paper edited and controlled entirely bv women. Its first editor was Miss K W. Sheppard. Mrs U. S. Smith war the first business manager. Miss S !M. Smith succeeded as editor, the> Mrs Oldham, of Napier, and in 191. |Mrs Perryman was appointed edito and holds that position to-day. During the afternoon suitable read ing was given by Mesdames Duxfielri Heatley, Ansley, and Wilson. Miss Stenberg rendered a pianoforte solo and afternoon tea was served The fancy work, cake, and produce stalls were well patronised. The proceeds amounted to over £3. The verv successful meeting closed with the Benediction. W.D.F.U. WAVERLEY BRANCH ■ The monthly meeting of the Waw icrley branch of the Women's Division I was held on Friday afternoon, Mrs. 'G- Alexander presiding. Also present ( were Mesdames W. Walkington, Wilson, Brewer, Hunt, C. Dickie, G. Graham, P. V. Graves, Miss J. Lupton and Miss Elmslie. Apologies for non-attendance were received frem Messrs. W. Alexander, Robertson, Wallace, Elmslie (2). After business of a routine nature had been arranged Mrs. Wilson, Pio Pio, the New Zealand president, addressed the meeting on the division work. It was decided to write to Mrs. Smith, Te Kuitl, re the play-reading and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Wilson for her most interesting talk on all division matters.
