RECORD TUNNY CAUGHT
AUSTRALIAN FISHER Al AN’S SUCCESS SYDNEY (By mail). A tunny weighing 2381 b. was caught by Mr. T. A. Bell, a woolbuyer of Melbourne, off Montague Island, near Bermagui, on May 15. This is claimed to be a record for the Australian coast. The previous best catch off Bermagui, it is stated, was a 137-pounder landed by Zane Grey. Mr. Bell said he played the tunny for an hour and a half before he got it aboard the launch. The tunny took 700 yards of line in its first run. The secretary of the Bermagui Big Game Fishing Club, Mr. Fred Sissons, said he had reported the catch to both Melbourne and Sydney authorities, and they agreed that it m ist stand as a record for Australia.
The tunny, which is described as of the blue species, was 6ft long, with a girth of 4ft 2in.
