BULLS

GENERAL NEWS To-day is stock sale day here, and the yardings advertised include a choice herd of Jersey cows, as well as heifers and pigs. At 11 a.m. a quantity of totara timber and sundries will be sold on the Bank of New Zealand property. A very handsome challenge cup is on view here at present, being the Rangitikei Defence Rifle Club’s trophy for annual competition amongst bona fide members of the club. The following names are inscribed thereon:— 1933. D. A. Lundy; 1934. H. Meads: 1935, D. P. Thorby; 1936, W. A. Stevenson. Miniature cups are presented to each winner. Members of the Rangitikei Ladies’ Golf Club will play a concealed partnership match on Thursday, and players may choose their own partners for the competition. All cards must be hand in. Mr. H. Stevens met with an accident on Thursday afternoon, being struck and thrown down in front of a slowly moving lorry, which was promptly brought to a standstill. Mr. Stevens sustained an injury to a knee, but is getting about again. A large number of cyclists took part in a road race on Saturday, the course being from Palmerston, out to Bulls, and back to Palmerston. A head wind delayed progress as far as this township, but the return journey was made in fast time. Local sportsmen appreciated the victory of the Bulls-trained horse Spender at Wanganui on Saturday, and owner-trainer Alf. Neale deserves a change of luck. Good progress is now being made with the new building for the Bank of New Zealand, the roof being in position, and most of the outside work being finished- Plasterers and carpenters are busy with the interior fittings and decorations.
