HIGHER BASIC WAGE
CLAIM IN VICTORIA MR. FRASER ON CONDITIONS IN NEW ZEALAND MELBOURNE, June 5. During the hearing of a claim by 52 unions for an increase in the basic wage, Mr. Crofts, appearing for the unions, produced a cable message from the acting-Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr. P. Fraser, which stated that the restoration of purchasing power to wage earners by the present Government had quickly been reflected in improved business conditions. Mr. Fraser added that there had been no evidence of a flight of capital to Australia as a result of Government measures in New Zealand.
