Miss Joan McMillan, St. John’? j Hill, leaves to-day for a brief visit j to Wellington. Mrs. Collinson was a Palmerston! North visitor to Wanganui on Saturday for the races. Mr. and Mrs. F. Bonner, of Mangaweka, were visitors to Wanganui for Saturday's race meeting. Mrs. J. H. Salmon, St. John’s Hill, who has been spending a holiday in Auckland, is expected to return home to-morrow. Mrs. J. Clarke, of Wanganui East, is spending a holiday with her daughter, Mrs. R. Lock, Pukeroa, Hunterville. . • • • Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Rhodes, of Rata, were visitors to Wanganui at the week-end, for the Melville—McDougal wedding. After the races on Saturday, Mrs. D. Handley, of Maxwell, motored to Dannevirke to attend a wedding and spent the week-end. Miss Hall, of the Stewart Karitane Home, Wanganui, spent the week-end with Mrs. W. Syme, Hawera, before going to New Plymouth. Mrs. J. Forsyth, of Ore Ore, Raetihi, who has returned from a holiday in the South Island, visited Wanganui before returning home and was the guest of Mrs. G. A. McDougal, St. John’s Hill.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Enderby and their . son, Frank, left Wanganui on Saturday for Wellington, en route to Eng- ( 'land. Many parties have been given , in their honour, and on Friday even- j ing a large sherry party, hostessed by Mrs. F. K. Turnbull, Mrs. R. P. Gib- • lin, Mrs. J. Craig (Wangaehu) and Mrs. Gordon Mcßeth, was held at Foster’s Hotel lounge, where about 45 , friends gathered to toast the travellers and wish them bon voyage. Signor and Signora Marotta, who have been on a broadcasting tour of New Zealand and have spent the last few' weeks in Wanganui with the Signora’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Webb Jones, Gonville, will leave on Wednesday for Wellington, sailing next day for Sydney. From there they go on a third tour of Australir under the National Broadcasting Corr? mission, terminating their contract at Perth. They sail at the end of July from Fremantle by the Italian liner' Esquilino for Italy, where they expect to return to the theatre once more. They will be joined at Perth by Miss Mercia de Maniel and her mother, who are also going to Italy to reside for a period. Miss Maniel is a pupil of Signor Marotta, and intends to continue her studies under him in Italy. HITHER AmTtHITHER Wanganui Townswomen’s Guild. Owing to the meeting falling on the King's Birthday, members have requested that the general meeting of the above, be held on June 16, in the Savage Club room, at 2 o’clock. Mrs. Bogle, M.A., is to be the speaker, Plunket Ball. A notable social event of the season in Wanganui is always the Plunket j Society Ball, which this year is to be held at the Collegiate School. An enthusiastic and capable committee has made detailed arrangements for the comfort and pleasure of those who attend the ball which takes place tomorrow evening (Tuesday, June 8). Bridge- tables will be arranged for non-dancers, and there will be two orchestras. Orpheus Choir Social. The first social evening for the year held under the auspices of the Orpheus Ladies’ Choir, took place at the Y.M.C.A. Social Hall on Saturday evening, when there was an attendance of about 60 members and their friends. A very pleasant evening was spent in dancing and games, interspersed with musical items. Several glees and part songs were sung by the choir under the leadership of Mrs. Buller, who was presented with a bouquet. Late/ in the evening Mrs. Buller sang “Not Understood,” and “Five Little Picaninies.” Duets were given by Misses R. and S. Fennell, the former, with Mr. Atkin playing the accompaniments. The members of the choir served, a very dainty supper, the evpning closing with the singing of “Auld Lan* Syne."
