ACTING-PRIME MINISTER

CIVIC RECEPTION TO-NIGHT LARGE CROWD EXPECTED The acting-Prime Minister and Minister of Education (Hon. Peter Fraser) arrived in Wanganui last night and is to be accorded a civic reception at the Opera House to-night. This morning, commencing with a visit to the health camp at 9 o'clock. Mr. Fraser will be engaged on matters affecting education. It is expected that a large crowd will attend to-night’s civic reception, and to avoid disappointing people wifti regard to accommodation it has been decided to hold the function in the I Opera House. The Wanganui Highland Pipe Band, in recognition of the fact that Mr. Fraser hails from Scotland, will play him from Foster’s Hotel to the Opera House. The Wanganui Garrison Band is to play a programme of music outside the building from 7.30 to 8 p.m. Members of the Wanganui City Council and various local bodies, together with their wives, will attend the reception and the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce has postponed to-night’s meeting in order to associate itself with the undertaking. Mr. Fraser, in his capacity as act-ing-Prime Minister, is personally in touch with matters of vital importance to the Dominion. “I feel sure that there will be a large attendance to-night,” said the Mayor of Wanganui (Mr. W. J. Rogers), stressing the importance of Mr. Fraser’s office. After the reception Mr. Fraser wili be the guest of the Labour Party at a social gathering. Members of the Garrison Band are to assemble, in uniform, at 7.15 p.m. sharp, at the bandroom.
