MORNING RUGBY

NEXT WEDNESDAY’S MATCH j WANGANUI AND MANAWATU RIVER CITY TEAM CHOSEN The three selectors of the Wanganui Rugby Union (Messrs. A. Henwood, C. Mullany, and S. R. Ambrose), two of whom saw the Pownali Trophy match at Taihape on Saturday, have chosen the following team to play Manawatu at Wanganui next Wednes- ■ day morning in celebration of the I King's Birthday and as a prelude to ; the Wanganui race meeting:— i Full-back.—T. Chase (Taihape). I Three-quarters.—L. Burgess (Kai- ] erau), D. G. Birtc.n (Wanganui and (Jid Boys), Culpan vBulls). Five-eighths.—K. Welsh (Technical Old Boys), B. Th imas (Waverley). Half-back.—E. Chamberlain (Wanganui and Old Boys ’. Baek of Scrum.—G. Lockett (Kaieruu). Sloes of Scrum.—N. James (Bulls), C. Hutchinsen ('technical Old Boys). Locks.—A. Davidson (Technical Old Boys) and W. Firmin (Kalerau). Front Row.—W. Thompson (Taihape), C. Reynolds (Marist), B. Goldsbury (Technical Old Boys). Reserves —R. Walker (Hunterville), forward; R. Chase (Taihape), back. The reserves are lor the match itself. They may, or may not, be moved into the team at the first vacancy. Lockett will captain tht team and Barton will be vice-captain. Country players must assemble at the Federal Hotel, Wan. ganui, on Tuesday (to-morrow) night. It is imperative that they conform to this instruction. Mr. S. R. Ambrose will act as manager of the team and all members, town and country, are to report to him at Spriggens Park to -morrow, (Tuesday) at 7.30 p.m. All members of the team are to assemble for the match at Spriggens Park at 10 a.m. sharp. The selectors, by introducing another wing three-quarter, Culpan, of Bulls, have got over the full-back difficulty, putting Tommy Chase back to the last line of defence. It was a wise way out. Chase has capably filled the role before, and with Culpan showing good form on the wing the selection was simplified. Welsh, a sound fiveeighth, has been left in the position he likes best. The team is a good one. It retains the inside back combination which began the season so well, and it could not be bettered in the forwards. There is plenty of pace and pushing ability in that van, *and in the backs plenty of speed and resource. One can regard the side as quite the best Wanganui has had in recent seasons, and a team, moreover, which has every prospect of keeping together for sufficient length ot time to develop combination. In Manawatu it will be up against a proposition harder, if anything, than Taranaki, and the match on Wednesday morning promises to be a good one.—“Cross-Bar." FOR NEXT SATURDAY “MOYE” SCHEME TO OPERATE THE TENTATIVE DRAW Subject to the approval of the Rangitikei Union, which will probably be forthcoming after to-night’s meeting, and subject to the classification of the Rangitikei teams being as shown, the second round ot Wanganui Rugby competitions under the "Moye" scheme, will commence next Saturday with the following matches: Old Boys v. Kaierau, Spriggens Park at 1.30 p.m. Bulls v. Waverley, Spriggens Park, at 3 p.m. Technical Old Boys v. Hunterville, at Hunterville (subject to Hunterville being A grade). Marist v. Halcombe, at Halcombe. Marton Old Boys v. Pirates, on Racecourse (Wanganui) at 3 p.m, UNDER LEAGUE BANNER INTERSTATE MATCH N.S.W. BEATS QUEENSLAND Received June 6, 7.5 p.m SYDNEY, June 6.
