WANGANUI CLUB RACE FOR NOVICES WIN FOR B. ADAMS The first trohpy race of the season was held on Saturday afternoon by members of the Wanganui Harrier Club when the novices competed over a course of approximately five miles for a trophy donated by Mr C. D. Weller. The seniors competed in a declared handicap event over a course of 3i miles. After heavy rain the courses for both races were in a heavy condition, a number of muddy paddocks having to be negotiated. In spite of this, however, the times recorded in both races were quite fast. Fastest time in the novice event was secured by B. Adams and in the senior race C. Cox and H. Hopper tied for the honour. The races were held from the A~amoho Boating Club’= shed over the Roberts Avenue course. Despite the cold and boisterous weather there were good fields for both races. MARTON CLUB 4TSIT FROM NEW PLYMOUTH HARRIERS The New Plymouth harriers journeyed to Marton on Saturday to compete in the inter-club shield race which was held over a 6’-mile road course instead of the championship course owing to the muddy state of the ground. The weather was very boisterous and the run was extremely trying because of the strong wind, but nevertheless the harriers enjoyed the run in spite of the unfavourable conditions. An Enjoyable Dance In the evening a most enjoyable dance was held in the Druids’ Hall, the New Plymouth harriers being the guests of the Marton boys. Matthews’ Minstrels, from Wanganui, maintained their reputation by the evident delight of the dancers. As usual the supper arrangements were in the capable hands of the ladies’ committee and a most dainty supper was served.
